ARLENE CHAN
Dragon Boat
My passion for dragon boating started in the auspicious Year of the Dragon (2000) when I was gathering research for my book, Awakening the Dragon. My curiosity for dragon boat racing progressed from paddling on recreational, competitive, then national teams. I’ve competed locally, as well as internationally at the 2010 Club Crew World Championship in Macau, China (four bronze medals), the 2011 World Dragon Boat Racing Championship in Tampa, Florida (four gold medals), and the 2013 World Dragon Boat Racing Championship in Szeged, Hungary (four gold medals). My home teams in Toronto for fourteen years were Team Chaos, formerly GWN Premier Mixed Team, as well as Outer Harbour Senior Women for four years. I retired from the sport in 2016.
